Intermark Group Participates in Birmingham Reads 2017

Each year, Intermark Group takes part in Birmingham Reads, a city-wide celebration of reading presented by Better Basics and the Junior League of Birmingham. These organizations recognized a connection between lower-income areas and illiteracy—Birmingham Reads aims to combat that!

The goal of the project is to “inspire all of Birmingham to pick up a book and read.” Last year, 692 volunteers visited 626 classrooms and read to over 13,000 students, and more than 45,000 books were donated to the children served by Better Basics. In low-income communities, books are a luxury that many families simply cannot afford. Through this program and its hundreds of gracious volunteers, Birmingham Reads has provided more than 92,000 books to children since it began 7 years ago.

This year Birmingham Reads day was held on Thursday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m., and the Intermark team enjoyed reading to the students of Central Park Elementary School. We were thrilled to play a part in making a positive impact on Birmingham’s students and the community! Check out some photos from the day below!
